Museums:

Drive time from 1 minute to 30 minutes from the Edgewater Resort! Lake Country's history is well documented in exhibits at our five museums and historical landmarks. In 1871, the brick courthouse was completed and became the first courthouse in California to be placed on the 1970 National Register of Historic Places. It was dedicated and opened as the LAKE COUNTY MUSEUM in 1978. Located in the City of Lakeport, the museum houses a research library containing historical photographs dating to the mid 1800s. More than 1,000 volumes of Lake County Genealogical Society material including family histories occupy a section of the library.

The LOWER LAKE HISTORICAL SCHOOLHOUSE MUSEUM, designated as a state point of historical interest, is in the restored Lower Lake Grammar School. It houses a reconstructed classroom from the late 1800s to early 1900s.

The museum at CLEAR LAKE STATE PARK features a variety of Native American and natural history exhibits, dioramas and native habitat fish tank.

The charming STONE HOUSE MUSEUM, next to a pond at the foot of Hidden Valley Lake dam, is one of Lake County's earliest extant building and the rooms are furnished in period style.

Auto Racing at Lakeport Speedway:

The experience is exciting and unforgettable. Season starts April through August every Saturday night!

Rock Hounding

Drive time from 1 minute to 30 minutes from the Edgewater Resort! In Lake County, amateurs as well as avid collectors can discover a semi-precious stone found nowhere else in the WORLD! The Lake County “diamond” or beta quartz crystals have a rating of 7.5 - 8 on the Moh hardness scale compared to real diamonds rated at 10. They have been used commercially and industrially and are capable of cutting glass. In great demand as semi-precious gems, they can be set uncut for a rough, natural look or cut and faceted to give them a fire which compares to the brilliance of real diamonds. Our stones are pieces of silica which are released from basalt deposits during rains and lay scattered over the hillsides concentrated through the region southeast of Mt. Konocti. They are easily spotted after a rain which washes off the red soil in which they are found. The geologic history of the Clear Lake basin, with eons of seismic activity, also accounts for the abundance of obsidian or “bottle rock”, found throughout the area; it was used extensively for fishing spear points by the Native Americans.
